Rustem Guardian Solicitors acted for a 16 year old defendant charged with Murder and Violent Disorder in a complex, multi-handed trial before the Central Criminal Court.
H and his family were unhappy with the approach of his previous solicitors, so approached Senior Partner Timur Rustem with a view to transferring legal aid. Rustem Guardian were able to successfully apply to transfer legal aid and take conduct of the matter, just five weeks before the trial.
Rustem Guardian instructed Dr Courtney Griffiths QC and pursued various legal arguments to properly present H’s case before the jury. The Rustem Guardian team also successfully introduced expert mobile telephone evidence which led to the exclusion of damaging evidence against H.
As a result of the hard work of the team put together by Rustem Guardian, the Defendant was acquitted of Murder. H’s co-Defendant was convicted, receiving a life sentence with a minimum tariff of twenty years.
Speaking after the case, Senior Partner Mr Rustem spoke about the importance of seeking alternate representation, if a Defendant or their family feels cases are not being properly handled.
